Moses baskets are a perfect sleep solution for newborn babies naptime in those first few months of life. Babies can generally use them up until they're about 4-6 months old, at which point they start to outgrow them (It's recommended to to only use until they can sit up unassisted or roll over, whichever happens first!). Until then, a Moses basket can be so much more practical than a full-size cot or larger bassinet.
Benefits of a Moses Basket
- Portability: they are super easy to move around the house and have close by to you in any room, to easily supervise babies naps. You can even pop it in the car, to use away from home when travelling or visiting family and friends!
- Space-saving: they are small and lightweight, perfect for limited space.
- Safe: they provide a safe and secure place for your baby to nap.
- Soothing: Moses baskets can be placed on stands too, lifting them off the floor and even creating a rocking motion for soothing your baby to sleep.

What to Look for When Buying a Moses Basket
When you're looking for the right Moses basket, there are definitely some things you'll want to think about and look for. Here are some features to look out for.
Materials
Firstly, the materials the basket is made from may be important to you. You can find that if you're looking for a Moses basket in Australia, you can come across a few different materials. For those who want to stick with natural materials, you will want to consider options like cotton and twine.
Size
The size of your Moses basket will make a difference. If it's too small, your baby could outgrow it before you're ready to stop using it. But if it's too big, it might take up too much space. A Moses basket generally needs to be at least 65cm to 70cm in length and a minimum of about 30cm wide. We've designed our Kiin basket to be generous, so that bub won't outgrow them too quickly!
Mattress
Does the basket include a mattress? Many do, but not all of them include them. If there is one, what is it made of, and does it come with a liner that's easy to clean?
Stand
Placing a Moses basket on a stand is convenient, so you might want to check if there's a matching stand. How much space does it take up, and can it be used as a rocker too?
