Our story
from 'kin' meaning family
Kiin Baby was born from a dream and a deep love for family. My name is Rosanna (yep, named after the Toto song!) but I’m better known as Rose. I’m a mum of two beautiful daughters, Hazel and Maisie, and an introverted, creative soul who loves a slower pace of life. It’s this passion for simplicity and beauty that led to the creation of Kiin Baby.
The initial spark came in 2017, while I was pregnant with Hazel. As I planned her nursery, I began dreaming up products that reflected my love for neutral, earthy tones and a modern bohemian style. At the time, I couldn't find exactly what I wanted for my baby girl, so I started imagining products that would fill that gap. After Hazel was born, I continued to build on those ideas slowly, all while adjusting to the wild and wonderful whirlwind of new motherhood.
When it came to naming our brand, I wanted something simple yet meaningful. What better than a name that embodies the essence of family? And so, Kiin was born—a nod to the word 'kin,' meaning family. We wanted a name that felt warm, familiar, and connected to what we’re all about: creating timeless, beautiful essentials for parents and little ones.
With a background in graphic design and photography, and the support of my business-savvy mum, Merrill, we set out to bring Kiin Baby to life. It wasn't always smooth sailing, though. We very almost threw in the towel at one point, after being swindled thousands of dollars by a manufacturer. It was a disheartening experience, but we persevered, pivoted, and eventually found our true direction. So, after nearly two years of dreaming, designing, and lots of trial and error, our first collection launched in early 2019. We started small, with just four muslin swaddle designs and hand-woven maize moses baskets.
We were blown away by the immediate response to our online boutique. Orders started flowing in, and we quickly found ourselves so busy that our plans for a regular market stall were put on hold. It was exciting yet challenging—our expectations were far exceeded!
As the business grew, it soon outgrew my home. Our dining room had become our packing area, and our living room was taken over by boxes of stock! So, in early 2020, we moved into our very own headquarters at the Tuggerah business park. It was a turning point for us, allowing our small team to work more efficiently in a fresh, inspiring space.
And this year, in 2024, we’ve made another exciting move to an even bigger HQ with so much room for activities! This new space means we can continue to grow our range at a comfortable pace. We also are hoping to create a small showroom/shopfront at our new HQ next year, so you’ll be able to come and shop our collection in person! Today, we’re still a small, family-owned business, with an all-female team of five. You might picture us as a big company, but behind the scenes, it’s just us—drinking coffee, bopping to 90’s hits, and hand-packing every order with love. We’re proud of what we’ve built and the values we stand for: creating high-quality products that are made to love and last.
Inspired by the natural world, we strive to minimise our impact on the environment. Our journey is one of constant learning and evolution, and we’re always open to suggestions and feedback.
